On halloween, we left Leif at my mom’s house before heading out to dinner and the Weezer show.

Lethy, being the evil woman that she is decided to give Leif a tail for Halloween… Below is a video of the result!

Fresh off a post about the second half of summer, I am going to get myself started early on the fall blogging!

I intentionally left The Beatles/; Rock Band (TB:RB) @ Jane + Ken’s 9/9/9 party off the summer. It sort of kicked off the start of fall.

The game is extremely polished – the background videos to the songs are really awesome. One moment they reflect actual archive footage and the next they are morphing into an animated dreamscape exploring the meanings of the songs. Obviously, the songs speak for themselves on quality.

Ken and Jane played host while Lethy and I kept the revolving door of guests experimenting with TB:RB. Oddly, vocals and the harmonizing got the most interest. A few people took to the drums as well. Typically vocals are what everyone shies away from, it was great to see a lively free spirited, uninhibited crowd of people. But of course, these were Jane’s friends mostly, so that’s the sort I’d expect!

Amazingly we went the entire month of September without going to a concert… at least not one that I recall. Maybe that’s why the month went by so fast… nothing to eagerly anticipate. We almost forgot about P!NK.

I’m glad we didn’t. I half expected it to be purely about the spectacle of the stage show and lipsynced pop hits. I was wrong. VERY wrong. And gladly so.

Pink is half pop star and half rock front woman. I really wonder how she would do as a front woman of an actual band. I think she’d kick fucking ass. But that’s just me.

More than a third of the songs they played were covers in the rock vein. She mixed it in nicely and really truly seemed to have a lot of fun performing. If anything, I’d say she had more fun with the covers and seemed almost bored at times with her own songs.

I’d recommend P!NK to any person who enjoys a good live show. Regardless if they like her singles or not, she’s a great live ROCK SHOW.

Coming up in October:

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame shows 1 and 2 plus WEEZER HALLOWEEN CLUB SHOW!

Awesomeness. I can’t fucking wait.

I’ve been insanely negligent in my blogging.

So let’s see…

At the start of July we saw Offspring at Sayreville Ballroom.

They bring a lot of energy and pack a lot of songs into a small time frame.

At the end of July, we saw AC/DC at Giant’s stadium. I’m glad we went and it was a real experience, but we left during the encore, and I’m glad we did. The high/drunk factor was extremely high that night and we avoided a ton of traffic by skipping 2 songs. Overall for being as epic a band as AC/DC is, I was disappointed.

Next up was Cruefest.

Godsmack was really, really good. The drum battle was awesome and they did a little medley of covers interlude which was a lot of fun. Despite being from Boston (and even mentioning that they were) they were able to work a crowd who was clearly there to see Motley Crue.

Motley Crue had an interesting set and their performance was pretty good… but during their 4th song, heavy rain and lightning sent us scurrying for the car.

At the very end of August, we drove up to Hartford with Paul and Jen, met up with Jane and Ken and saw Weezer + Blink-182. Sadly, due to traffic we missed Taking Back Sunday. They were just finishing their set as we walked from the parking to the venue.

Weezer performed well, but somehow I personally had a hard time getting into that show.

Blink had a lot of sound issues where the vocals and guitars seemed really washed out. The rain that threatened all that day held off though, so we had fun hanging out in the lawn area.

A week later we went up to Cape Cod for a few days. The accommodations were…. well the location was good and the amenities (pool, beach, wifi) were good, but the room itself was down right awful. The door had a half inch gap all around allowing in a draft of bone chilling 50 degree sea air. The bed was a fold down. While down, the room was… just a bed. The shower was awful.

But we had fun. It rained a lot, but we bummed around Provincetown quite a bit, ate good food, and did a lot of people watching. All told, a nice little 2.5 day escape from work.

So yeah, I’ve been completely negligent in my blogging duties.

We’ve gone to a ton of shows and taken very few pictures other than poor quality cellphone shots so I’m gonna have to document things hijacking content from Ken where possible!

After NINJA came a trip down to Atlantic City for the Regeneration Tour.

Maybe its the economy, the weather when we were there, or maybe its normal, but Atlantic City seemed sad and half dead. The boardwalk was just a huge cluster-F of people trying to squeeze money out of disinterested tourists.

Luckily, Regeneration Tour was top notch. Cutting Crew opened the show and played a handful of songs leading into “Died in your Arms” which was a pretty epic sing along.

Wang Chung was up next and made the mistake of saying one of their songs was new. No one would have known the difference. Anywho, Wang Chung was pretty good too and everybody had fun (tonight).

Then came Berlin. I didn’t know what to expect from any of the bands at Regen2009 but Berlin was more of a wildcard as they were only doing select dates. All that needs to be said is Terri Nunn is awesome and I’m really glad our date was one that Berlin played. I’d see Berlin again given the opportunity.

ABC had the unenviable task of following Berlin. They sounded good, but couldn’t match the energy or personality.

After Regeneration came Paramore + No Doubt the next week.

Some chick opened before Paramore, who we missed. Well, that’s a lie. We didn’t miss her. We intentionally got there after she performed.

Paramore were solid, Haley had a lot of energy but it’s hard to perform in daylight. Of course, that’s twice now we’ve seen Paramore in daylight (Bamboozle).

No Doubt had a really funky looking set that took them quite a while to get setup.

Gwen had a lot of energy, including showing off just how much spare energy she had by doing pushups at one point.

The following few weeks were mostly filled with family BBQs and stuff, up until last night. All that and more in Part 2 sometime soon!
