Lethy and Jane got the return leg of the road trip – with twice the time to do it, so they had the fun part!

I only have 2nd hand info and some pictures, but here’s what I’ve got!

The day after we left, I guess they finally had a spare moment to breath – and check out the trails that start at the end of the street:

Hiking up to King Con lift is no short climb!

As they began their drive, they went to a real old ghost town and then stayed in a real old west hotel.

They saw whatever the heck these things are…

Parts of Wyoming really look like Badlands…

They proceeded to drive through a whole lot of Nowhere…

They stopped at the Roller Skating Museum…

And eventually reached Chicago:

They stopped off in Chinatown there…

But ultimately, they made it back to NY…

Well there isn’t too much to write about our time in Park City.

Most of my time was spent on renovations, furnishing, etc.

Evenings were spent grilling!

We hope to go back this fall and actually spend more time having fun and less spending money and working!

So at the end of June Lethy and I packed up the car and hit the road to furnish the condo in Park City!

Day 1:

 

After finalizing packing in Nyack, we hit the road for Lancaster, PA.

Welcome to PA!

We drove through a lot of smaller highways and some completely incomprehensible traffic in PA to get to Lancaster and then we really didn’t get to see anything Amish like before we had to get back on the road.

West Virginia should have been a very short, forgettable part of our trip, but mother nature decided otherwise.

There were very strong tornadoes all around us and our phones were going crazy with weather warnings and the radio was on full blown disaster alerts.

Several hours later, after quite a bit of white knuckle driving, we entered Ohio.

Several more hours driving well into the night, we finally reached our Day 1 lodging in Dayton, OH!

Day 2 – Dayton, OH to Hays, KS – Corn, Soy, Wheat, oh boy!

 

Waking up in Ohio, we licked our wounds, had a hardy middle America breakfast, and hit the road once more.

Indiana…

and Illinois…

Were utterly forgettable.

Missouri was only more memorable for crossing the Mississippi.

Kansas provided some good “wow, we’re finally in Kansas again” jokes.

As we drove into the night in a seemingly never ending state, we again got treated to Tornado warnings, torrential rain, electrical storms, and strong winds with just a touch of hail. The tornadoes were not as close this time so it was not quite as bad.

Day 3 – Hays, KS to Park City, UT – Up and over

We’re not in Kansas anymore.

Colorado started out much like Kansas, but as we proceeded west, the Rockies began to loom and quickly we were up in them. We took the “scenic” route going up through Winter Park and then along US Highway 40.

The driving was fun, lots of sharp curves and steep climbs. Still snow in the Rockies, too.

A very quick stop in Dinosaur National Park and the smell of fires was in the air.

Almost there!

Entered UT and the fires became worse and worse. Heavy smoke filled the air in some places.

Finally after over 2250 Miles, we’re there!

 

Last week we went out to Park City for our annual spring skiing.

The first day it rained – ALL – day so no skiing. We walked from our rental condo to town and all over the resort. Dinner @ Prime 🙂

But thankfully, as night fell it switched to snow and we got 12″ of fresh pow!

Almost first tracks, but not quite.

Sunday and Monday were both great Powder days.

Tuesday things started to get a little mushy.

Dinner at Prime again, this time seated by the bar near the music!

Wednesday after driving Mom and Dad down to SLC, we went Snow Shoeing…

From snowshoeing we went to the Crater which is a weird natural hot spring inside a cave.

From the outside it just looks like a huge mound.

From the inside you can see the hole at the top…

The water is 90F, a little blueish/greyish but very clear, and scuba divers down below end up making crazy currents when they exhale air that expands rapidly as it rises.

It’s a weird place.

Later that night we went to Wasatch Brewery, which had very tasty food… and Karaoke.

 

Thursday we again skied. Crusty in the morning, mushy in the afternoon. In our final afternoon we went from one end to the other of the resort.

Friday we packed, went on the Alpine Coaster, and did a little Real Estate viewing.

All in all a great trip. We love the skiing, the town, the atmosphere…
